Honeycomb Baby Blanket
Hey All,
Wow. It sure has been pretty crazy lately. And Christmas is basically here which is my favorite season. The number of crafts that are out there and oh my gosh the food. The meat, the potatoes, the desserts! I plan on making all of my cookies this next weekend, including Buckeyes (if you haven't heard of these stay tuned!), hard-tack candy, and all kinds and varieties of cookies from family recipes.
I hope you all are been having as good as a holiday season as I have and have been getting those Christmas presents bought, or made. I love MAKING my gifts for people as they have a personal touch to them. I remember as a child receiving a handmade blanket and I have treasured it (yes, I still have it). This year I have a lot of blankets in the making, including one for my cousin's new baby. I didn't get to her baby shower and since I typically don't get her a gift for Christmas, I figure I would make it up this year. So, I decided to crochet her a baby blanket.
I found this awesome pattern for a honeycomb, but it is smooth across and doesn't have ridges, like lots of honeycomb pattern blankets out there. The pattern is called Nana's "Sweet As Can Bee" Baby Blanket. You can also look the pattern up on Ravelry!
Is that so adorable? So simple yet gorgeous. This would make a great throw for the couch or even a summer blanket for the bed. The pattern outlines what yarn and such that she used and the comments on her pattern also have the size and any help with the pattern.
The materials that I used are as follows:
-Yarn Bee Soft Secret Solids in
Keylime (1 Skein)
Soft Pink (1 Skein)
Gray (1 Skein)
-Loops and Threads Soft and Shiny Solids in
10 Gray (partial Skein)
-Size J (6.00 mm) hook
Instead of changing the colors a bunch of times, I just blocked it out. I used the whole skein of each in each block and it made a blanket slightly larger than what the pattern states. Here is what it was looking like with 2 of the 3 colors finished and the third started.
The is what the blanket looked like before I did the border. I did not originally plan a border for the blanket (that is why the yarn is a different brand) but after finishing the body of the blanket, I thought it was missing something. (Please excuse my socks)
I used the darker gray to make a small border, in which I just used single crochet about 4 times around. It definitely brought the blanket together the rest of the way and cleaned up the edges for that finishing touch. (and please excuse the dog toys).
I hope you all enjoy the pattern (all credits to Nana!) and the tips.
Much Love,
Taylor
UPDATE:
She absolutely loved it! It was the perfect gift and hopefully, the little one can appreciate it as much as I appreciated mine. Now excuse me while I go reminiscing on about the times when I would take and nap and mom would cover me with that blanket, just warm from the dryer. Ahhhhh.
